Mix Supervisor

The Mix Supervisor's primary focus is to manage day-to-day operations and is responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for the Mix Department. Supervise overall mix manufacturing operations in a high-speed manufacturing environment to meet Quality, Service, Cost and Personnel objectives. 

We are seeking a leader that will work closely with our Plant Operations Team to implement modern batching, mix and packaging practices, drive continuous improvement, world-class standards and help to create “Best in Class” products. You will be successful by ensuring quality, safe and efficient operations, serving as a company representative on regulatory issues, and enhancing operational procedures, systems, and principles in the areas of information flow and management, business processes, and enhanced management reporting.

The mill, mix and production operations may run 24 hours a day, and team members in these positions will need to be available for operations support 24/7.

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 / year

MIX SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage mix operations, including production quality, team member and asset safety, operation efficiencies, plant security, continuous improvement, drive initiatives and innovation that generate new opportunities within the Mix department. As well as coaching and mentoring the team by utilizing lean manufacturing practices.
  • Be a leader for our Mix Plant Team and support cross functionally throughout the company.
  • Mandate adherence to all safety guidelines and work to provide a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Champion continuous improvement across all operational disciplines.
  • Utilize LEAN, statistical, and data-visualization tools.
  • Manage daily and long-term production activities to meet or exceed budgeted quality, yield, and operating cost targets by managing equipment efficiency and productivity.
  • Manage team operating all machinery and systems.
  • Determine appropriate actions with respect to changing situations resulting from manpower or material changes and formulates appropriate action plans.
  • Develop and mentor professional growth and advancement of department staff.
  • Create an empowered culture to ensure that the department and its people understand the goals and objectives of the business and that they have the resources and leadership support to accomplish them. Provide an environment which ensures and provides open and healthy communications.
  • Coordinate the work of the department to ensure prompt reaction to such things as changing production schedule, material performance, production delays, mechanical problems, customer needs, and quality issues.
  • Team with Engineering and Technical Milling groups to develop improved processes and/or material.
  • Supervise shift manufacturing operations to meet quality, service, costs and people objectives.
  • Interprets specifications, formulas, and production schedule to team members and assigns duties.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems and/or assists team members in solving problems.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments to machines.
  • Attend Food Safety Meetings.
  • Provides feedback and/or suggestions on how to correct quality issues, improve efficiency, and motivate the workforce.
  • During the initial training period, evaluates new-hires progress, time, attendance, work ethic etc.
  • Confers with management/shift mix batching operators to coordinate activities.
  • Be an alternate for the crisis management team and be responsible for Food Safety and Quality in the Mix Department.

MIX SUPERVISOR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of Quality Assurance experience required.
  • 3+ years of mix/blending and/or packaging plant operations experience required.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral HS Education or GED.
  • Demonstrated scheduling and process optimization for batch mixing, loading/unloading, warehouse, and/or packaging operation.
  • Understanding of basic principles of the BRC program and other food safety policies/procedures.
  • Strong leadership behaviors.
  • Demonstrated safety and food safety champion behaviors.
  • Food manufacturing/processing experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (communication, coaching, setting expectations, and providing feedback).
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, multitask, able to read and write in English, Spanish speaking a plus.
  • Demonstrated problem solving/decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and lead others to work as a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.
  • Demonstrated Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Forklift certification a plus.
  • Safety training is required and provided by PHM Brands in group settings, as well as individual computer-based training.
  • Available to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends may be required.
  • Ability to utilize computers for data entry, recipe card retrieval, and label making.
  • Ability to use basic math to calculate ingredient amounts.
  • Ability to maintain or exceed minimum batch mixing and packaging efficiencies.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position requires physical efforts such as straining, pulling, lifting, working, and standing and walking on concrete floor.
  • Exposure to elements such as noise, minable dust, cold and hot temperatures.
  • Extreme climate or climate variation.
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment hazards, especially forklifts.
  • Climbing ladders.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
