Terminal Operations Supervisor

Dawn, TX

The Terminal Operations Supervisor will manage the day-to-day operations for the terminal & the operations in Dawn, TX. The position is primarily responsible for safely managing the operations, drivers, equipment and being a liaison between the customer & driver back to management. Some driving of CMV will be required as needed.

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 / Year

TERMINAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Must possess a valid Class A CDL with minimum required experience.
  • Be available by phone and email as needed.
  • Open to all shifts including some evenings and weekends, and overnights.
  • Manage daily operations at Dawn, TX
    • Schedule drivers in for physical and drug test.
    • Assist with interviewing new hire candidates.
    • Schedule trailers for washes per company guidelines.
    • Schedule equipment for repairs and preventive maintenance.
    • Monitor DVIR’s and drivers HOS in Motive.
    • Work closely with the mill and the mills customers for excellent service.
    • Be a strong communicator and respond swiftly to drivers, customers and management.
    • Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
    • Track and manage the driver’s payroll with the assistance of the customer experience account manager & General Manager.
    • Cross train with customer experience account manager, in all aspects of that job.
    • Train new hires in all aspects of the job.
    • Assist with drivers orientation process as needed.
    • Road test all new driver applicants
    • Assist in delivery of missed loads, moving trailers around the yard, and operation of feed loaders.
    • Transport flour/grains/materials to our customers throughout North America.
    • Audit driver logs for compliance.
    • Assist in dispatching work to drivers daily.
    • Maintain accurate records and logs.
    • Track drivers PTO requests and schedule PTO time to ensure enough drivers are available for the customers’ needs.
    • First point of contact on all driver issues/customer issues.
    • Responsible for the safety of all drivers and equipment.
    • Make sure all equipment is scheduled for annual DOT inspections before they expire.
    • Assist with coaching drivers.
    • Load/Unload freight or assist in the loading/unloading of freight, if required.
    • Confirm accuracy of BOL, Seals and trailer number after hooked to the trailer. Report any discrepancies to a supervisor before departing. 
    • Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
    • Report all spills to a supervisor and clean up after yourself. 
    • Maintain accurate records and logs.
    • Always keep the tractor clean on the inside, wash the tractor bi-weekly.  
    • Remain outside of the cab of the truck when loading or unloading in all weather conditions.
    • Reseal all trailers when empty.  
    • No pets are allowed in the company equipment.
    • Crosstrain and assist in washing trailers in the wash bay.
    • Train new employees in wash SOP.
    • Maintain safe work environment for the wash bay.
    • Assist in making equipment repairs and/ or moving equipment to third party vendors.
    • Travel to other work sites as needed, travel may be required 20-25% of the time.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

TERMINAL OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have prior supervisor experience.
  • Must have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor trailer or comparable vehicle (Grain Hopper, Dry Van, or Bulk Pneumatic preferred):
    • 12 months experience within the past 3 years, OR
    • 2 years’ experience within the last 5 years, OR
    • 5 years’ experience within the last 10 years.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Long periods of sitting in an office setting.
  • Managing others.
  • Working in hot & cold conditions as required.
  • Working in wet conditions in the wash bay.
  • Liaison for customers, drivers and vendors.
  • Cranking of handles.
  • Lifting, as needed.
  • Long periods of sitting while operating a CMV.
  • Loading & Unloading in all weather conditions.
  • Climbing ladders and steps as needed with proper 3-point contact.
  • Swinging of mallet repeatedly as needed.
